Migrating north to Wisconsin

As we made our way northward from Texas we encountered
more familiar birds, cooler temperatures and no leaves.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet displays crown.

We spent three days at the Winnebago Service Center in Forest City, Iowa
We had chances to bird nearby and found lots of
White-throated Sparrows and other early migrants.

Brown Thrasher

Veery

Gray Catbird

Our first Tufted Titmouse for the year.

Downy Woodpecker seemingly defying gravity.

Barn Swallow and Northern Rough-winged Swallow on cold morning.

Ovenbird tossing leaves for insects

Yellow-rumped Warbler

Chipping Sparrow

Northern Waterthrush

On an abandoned railroad, this Red Fox vixen is shown affection by one of  her four kits.

Too Cute!

And highly curious!

Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Leaving Iowa, we crossed the Mississippi River and were greeted
by this Bald Eagle on the Wisconsin side.

We then spent 2 and a half days with good friends Bill & Glenda
in Janesville, Wisconsin. We've known them for 54 years, they have recently
joined the birding ranks and learning fast all about the birds.
Ring-necked Duck at Janesville park.

Ruddy Duck

Canada Geese goslings everywhere

Leucistic American Robin
Nesting nearby

Dutchman's Breeches

Bill & Glenda's new yard resident
Black-capped Chickadee.

Eastern Bluebird

Lesser Yellowlegs at Horicon Marsh, a great stop on our
way to Green Bay.

Blue-winged Teal along the auto tour.

Distant view of Whooping Crane along Hwy. 49

White-crowned Sparrow

Lapland Longspur flock blended into the old corn field

We detoured East to Sheboygan and found the beautiful Harlequin Ducks

Handsome fellow in amazing breeding plumage

North Point produced several species of gulls and terns.
Boneparte's Gulls and a Ring-billed Gull.

Caspian Tern with "catch of the day"

Common Terns gave us another new year bird.

Ring-billed gull screams goodbye to us.

We are off to Green Bay to see many friends and bird the Bay Beach
Wildlife Sanctuary at the peak of migration.

Love & Prayers
