Estero Llano Part 2

 

Roseate Spoonbill returns to new pond after four days and 6 inches of rain.

Tricolored Heron catches a Talapia

Black-crowned Night-heron

Two Little Blue Herons

Little Blue Heron stretches

White-faced Ibis

White Ibis & White-faced Ibis probe the wet ground.

Black-necked Stilt

American Avocet in winter plumage

Diamond-backed Watersnake

7 foot long Indigo Snake

Alligator sunning at Alligator Lake

Softshell Turtle

Long-billed Thrasher

Curve-billed Thrasher

White-winged & White-tipped Doves

Tiny Inca Dove checks out the birdbath.

A little easier to see but still the most difficult to point out to visitors

On our way to South Padre Island we stopped at  La Feria Nature Center
American Coot and Least Grebe

There were many wading birds there - Roseate Spoonbill & Great Egret

Roseate Spoonbill does a close flyby

Invasive species - the Nutria (beaver size)
Brought to the US in the 1930's from South America.

Several Vermilion Flycatchers were bug hunting in the area.

We are now on South Padre Island for three months.
Feeling blessed to still be able to travel.
